ILLUS. Have you ever been driving down the street and saw one of those places that say... ''Palm Reading'' or ''Tarrot Card Reading.'' - OR... I remember as a kid getting the newspaper and seeing the ''Horoscope'' section. - Why do people fool with this stuff? Curiosity... desperation? - When people need answers ... when they need help ... when people are hurting ... when they have a problem ... they will turn SOMEWHERE.

You may have never turned to that other junk... but people also turn to MONEY, RELATIONSHIPS, PERFORMANCE, ESCAPISM... all sort of forms of IDOLS... when they encounter a problem... or pain.

Where we run when we are hurting, when we are in trouble... when we need answers... reveals things about our heart. It reveals in that moment what we trust, where we hope.

Where you run when in need is revealing.


Big Idea: Today's text reminds us... there is a very real God and He alone Should be the one we run to... he alone should be sought and trusted.


Today we are in 2 Kings 1. Elijah is still a prophet in Israel. However, Ahab is no longer king. He has died. His son Ahaziah is now king. Today, we get another lesson in the foolishness that is idolatry. - Ahaziah didn't learn from the mistakes of his father... he just continued down a sinful, rebellious, idolatrous path.

1 Kings 22:51-53 - Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel. 52 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of his father and in the way of his mother and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. 53 He served Baal and worshiped him and provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger in every way that his father had done.
