ILLUS. - Time to Go - In your family who makes everyone late? Every family has one! If you don't know... it's probably you! - But some folks have the personality... they are ready. - They are the ones waiting by the door, jingling keys. With kids we are just hoping to everyone there with shoes on. That's a win. - But ready or not... sometimes it's simply time to go. Better to be ready. Right?
We to are all going to go one day... either by death... or meeting the Lord in the air when He returns. - But either way... this life, the here and now... its temporal. We one day will step into eternity.
As we look at Elijah's last days on earth we can learn about leaving well. We can learn this through what God did in and through his life... and after he was gone.
We can leave well, we can be ready to go when it's time to go... we simply need to prepare to leave, we need to invest in other to make an impact... and from this text we will see... we can rest in God's faithfulness as He will continue to work after we are gone.
At some point it's our time to go... in light of that we need to be preparing, investing in others, and knowing that because of God's continued faithfulness we can also be at rest.
2 Kings 2:1-14 - Now when the LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. 2 And Elijah said to Elisha, ''Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me as far as Bethel.'' But Elisha said, ''As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.'' So they went down to Bethel. 3 And the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, ''Do you know that today the LORD will take away your master from over you?'' And he said, ''Yes, I know it; keep quiet.''
4 Elijah said to him, ''Elisha, please stay here, for the LORD has sent me to Jer ...
