Give Thanks
Josh Malone
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Happy TG! It is TG week, you made it. - You get to eat food that you love so much... that you won't eat it again for like a year. - But TG is a GREAT HOLIDAY ... and I like the food. It's been a national Holiday since 1863 when President Lincoln declared it so during the Civil War.
We need to understand that while as a nation we may set aside a day to ''Give Thanks,'' as a believers... thanksgiving is to be a regular part of our life. We are to be a thankful people.
If anyone should be thankful this TG ( and every day) its US, Christ followers). Think about it... we celebrate TG as a nation... thanksgiving unto who? Who are we giving the thanks to? - You ever think about that? People will say Happy TG all week... who are we happy to be giving thanks to?
People say they are thankful... like it's just a feeling... but it can only be given... if it's given to someone. - The fact we see a need for a holiday like this is just another fingerprint on our soul that we are made in God's image... made to worship Him... we are to be thankful first and foremost to GOD.
Today I want to encourage us to not simply be thankful this Thursday... but live and express our thanksgiving to God... regularly... for it to flavor every day.
Listen to what the Apostle Paul writes to the Church at Thessalonica about this topic. He is toward the end of his book. He is giving some general admonitions in relational dealings and church... like Paul does some times in his epistles... and he writes...
1 Thess. 5:16-18 - 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
You want to know God's will? Us REJOICING... PRAYING... and THANKING.
Some believe Paul here is focusing on the INNER life of the believer. Some think Paul is focusing on the CORPORATE worship of the gathering. - What characterizes God's people... should characteriz ...
