GOD'S PLACE AND PURPOSE FOR THE HOME
Miles Seaborn
Genesis 2:18-24
INTRO. We do not need a dissertation this morning to
know the "home' as an institution is in serious
trouble! It is under attack from both the secular
world and the religious world - there is in all
probability hardly a home represented here that has
not been touched in some way with heartache and
breakup.
ILL. Here in the heart of the Bible belt our
divorce petitions and wedding license were almost
even (7000 each) in 1969. Hardly a week goes by
that I am not asked to help someone or some
couple whose home or relationship is in serious
trouble. This is part of my calling and I
rejoice in victories and sorrows in failures.
What must we do? Shall we ignore it in our churches,
should we soft peddle it in our teachings and
preaching. Some of the finest people into his and any
other church have gone through broken homes, divorces
and bore the scars and live with consequences.
I feel we must face the issue with love, and
understanding proclaim God's Word. Strive to instill
in our youth and families spiritual principles. We
cannot throw up our hands and quit. God has a plan.
God has a remedy. Let us approach Him with an open
heart.
The home today is called many things - a filling
station - a Laundromat - a bank - a battlefield - a
place not to come home to. But God started it all
under the most ideal conditions and gave us in Adam
and Eve the perfect setting for marriage and the home.
Because sin soon entered the scene, God's ideal was
never attained by that first couple - nor Israel
either by law or actual practice.
I. TRUTHS CONCERNING MARRIAGE AND THE HOME IN THE OLD
TESTAMENT
1. God's plan for man's home - Gen. 2:18-25 One
man - one woman - next to choosing Christ - choosing
life's partner most important choice. Hell on earth a
misnomer. Hell is in Hell but if you wanted one
sentence ...
