A football or baseball game... where a team overcame a huge deficit, but fell short in the end because they simply ran out of time...
The true currency of life is time, and all of us have a limited amount of that currency.
Bill Gates put it this way... He said, ''No matter how much money you have, you cannot buy more time.''
Time on earth is short. We all have that in common. We were all born, and (as much as we hate thinking about it or even admitting it...) we will all someday experience what it is to die.
When I was a young boy, I remember walking through our family graveyard (Yellowpine Cemetery) deep in the piney woods of East Texas...
As we walked past the tombstones of so many family members that had lived and died, my grandfather pointed out the fact that on each of those tombstones, in between those two dates (the date of the their birth and the date of their death) there was a DASH.
I had never really noticed the dash until that day. But after noticing it... for the first time in my life I realized... that single dash represented the culmination of that person's life. Their entire existence on planet earth...
That thought and that realization has really helped shape the way I view today, and tomorrow, and this life in general... It's also helped me understand what James meant when he said in [James 4:14] ''For you are like vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes.''
God reminds us over and over again... The currency of life is time and you only have a limited amount of that currency. That same verse says... You are not promised tomorrow! Think about that. God never promised we'd have another day... but He's allowed us to have TODAY... THIS MOMENT... THIS DASH...
