When you live in a town like Cleveland, Tennessee... conversations and questions about the Holy Spirit aren't necessarily rare. But when you get outside of Cleveland and outside of the Bible belt... you'll quickly find that many churches (especially Baptist churches) don't really want to talk about the Holy Spirit... and I'm not exactly sure why.

Maybe it's because we've seen other denominations go to extremes that we don't necessarily agree with... or perhaps it's because we've seen conversations lead to controversies among believers ... and we don't want any part of that.

I don't know all the reasons why... but I do know that in many Christian circles today-there's an overall avoidance when it comes to speaking or teaching about the Holy Spirit.

And the reason I have a problem with that... is... because when you look at the life, the ministry, and the words of Jesus... it's clear that Jesus 'majored' on the Holy Spirit. And if the Holy Spirit is a big deal to Jesus... He ought to be a big deal to us. (Amen?)

Today, we're going to open God's word... we're going to read the words of Jesus and we're going to see what HE has to say about the Holy Spirit... He's going to speak about the PROMISE... the PERSON... the POWER... and the PRESENCE of the Holy Spirit. (I'd encourage you to take notes today)

The PROMISE

When I was in high school, boys and girls... dated. That term has changed over the years. For some of you, when you were in high school, people 'went steady' ... people were 'courting' ... people were 'getting penned' ... or 'necking.' (I don't know exactly what that means, but it sounds terrible.)

Today, kids are ''talking'' ... ''breadcrumbing'' ... ''orbiting'' with the hopes of ultimately becoming ''Instagram official'' ... The terms of dating have obviously changed... but the goals in dating have remained the same.
