The prosperity of the church. Isn't this what we all want. I sincerely hope so. God wants our church to prosper this year as He does every year. He wants His church to be healthy, happy, and prosperous. There are many definitions for ''prosperity.'' As for the church the only definition that counts is God's.
Not only does the church need a working definition for prosperity we'll also need to know how to achieve it. I believe this text gives us all we need to know about this subject.
A DEFINITION FOR PROSPERITY
Webster's defines prosperity as ''flourishing, thriving, or experiencing good fortune.'' When many look at this definition I'm sure they think it has something to do with money, possessions, or achievement. This is definitely not the way the church should look at it because this is not the Lord's definition.
How would the Lord define prosperity? Prosperity for the church must always have to do with the spiritual and must always include God's blessings. There are churches that God cannot bless. The most prosperous churches may not be the largest. This year I want our church to be rich in the Lord if nowhere else.
A FORMULA FOR PROSPERITY
1- To prosper the church must have people like Barnabas; people upon whom the gospel of Jesus Christ has had a radical impact.
27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. And he declared to them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that He had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.
2- To prosper the church must have people like Paul; people who are bold for Jesus. A prosperous church will have members who are willing to live a radical Christian lifestyle. Did you really do your best for Jesus last year?
