Deliverance (12 of 41)
Series: Acts
Richard Bradley
Acts 5:12-16
In verse 13 of this passage we find an interesting statement - ''Yet none of the rest dared join them.'' The meaning of this statement is obvious when we read the preceding passage - the tragic story of Ananias and Sapphira. This couple witnessed the generosity of others like Barnabas and maybe the acclaim that it brought. They craved their glory but not their sacrifice. So, they lied to the church and the Holy Spirit and God killed them.
This event brought about a great separation - those who belonged to Christ from those who did not belong to Him. It was not the believers that fled the scene it was the unbelievers who just wanted to get in on the show.
However, in this passage we find a third group of people - those who had a desperate need of God. In this passage we find God doing for them what only He can do.
What do you need from the Lord this morning? Will you bring it to Him?
ACTS 5:12-16
12 And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon's Porch.
13 Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly.
14 And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,
15 so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them.
16 Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
