The God Who Connects (16 of 16)
Series: Exodus
Jim Perdue
Exodus 25-31, 35-40
Intro/Attention
It's hard to believe that we are finishing up our series today in the book of Exodus. This is the sixteenth and final sermon in a series we've been calling, Who Is This God? We have learned so much about who God is through this series. He is The God Who Calls...Guides...Redeems... Provides...Forgives...and Renews. And today, The God Who Connects.
Today, we are covering multiple chapters, but all of these chapters deal with the same topic, instructions for the tabernacle, sacrifices, and the priesthood. All of this points to a God who desires to connect with His people. A God who desires to have a personal relationship with us. READ 25:17-22, 26:31-34, 29:45-46, 36:2-7, 40:16, 34-38
*Today, it's all about ''connection.'' Social media, LinkedIn, etc. It's not about what you know, it's about who you know.... ''Let's connect, I'll have my people call your people!'' These days it's almost impossible to find someone that's not connected with social media at all. It's been marketed as a way for us to connect with one another. We can get to know our neighbors better, reestablish relationships with childhood friends, we can friend our family members, classmates, and coworkers. There are even affinity groups now on Facebook and Twitter where you can connect with likeminded people who hold the same views and values as you. With social media, smart phones, and the internet, connecting with others has never been easier. There's just one problem. Studies show that as a society, we are lonelier and more isolated than ever. We have more ''friends'' and ''followers'' on social media, but those relationships are superficial and unfulfilling. It turns out getting to know someone through a computer screen or a smartphone isn't the same as really getting to know someone. We need human interaction. That's why gathering together with the body of Christ at church is so important ...
