Acts 2:36-39
J. Vernon Magee often said concerning Scripture that when you see the word ''therefore'' you should see what it's there for. Therefore is a word that precedes a summary statement of all that has gone on before it. On the day of Pentecost Peter stood to talk about what had happened and the preaching of the gospel in supernatural ways.
No doubt everyone had a lot of questions. Some were saying one thing and some another. Through Peter The Lord answered those concerns:
1- The fulfillment of Scripture - Joel (vv. 14-21).
2- A recounting of the life - death - resurrection of Jesus Christ (vv. 22-24).
3- The testimony of David as it applies to the risen Christ (vv. 25-35).
Now comes the word ''therefore'' in verse 36. In other words, ''What does all this mean?'' What does all this mean to me and you?
Acts 2:36-39
36 ''Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.''
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ''Men and brethren, what shall we do?''
38 Then Peter said to them, ''Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.''
THIS MEANS THAT JESUS IS THE ANOINTED ONE
36 ''Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.''
Some of the people thought the disciples were drunk on the day of Pentecost. Peter reminded them that it was too early in the day for that and then gave them an even better explanation for what was taking place.
