Acts 1:12-14
I've been in what many believe to be the upper room in Jerusalem. Nobody really knows if this is true or not - but it could be. The upper room is just a large, unfurnished room that would have been the second floor of a residence. It's not important where the upper room was or if it still exists, what is important is what took place there. It was there that the people of God prayed the church into existence.
The disciples were just doing what Jesus told them to do. They were to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit before going anywhere or doing anything. While they waited they did not waste their time - they prayed!
Acts 1:12-14
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey.
13 And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James.
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
THEIR PARTICIPATION IN PRAYER

This word ''continued'' can mean one of two things or both. It can mean to be ''earnest or serious'' about something. Or it can mean to ''persevere in something'' - to keep on praying until something happens. In this case I think it means both.
These people had no choice but to be serious about prayer. Their very lives were in danger because of who and what they were. But, they were also praying with some pretty incredible promises ringing in their ears and hearts. They had just left the risen Savior and were waiting for some pretty special things to happen because of what ...
