In these five Character Studies we will do a first person characterization of how it might have been with Joseph, Mary, the Shepherds, the Wisemen, and lastly Jesus. You can use these to characterizations to help your church go back to that first Christmas setting and grasp the emotions and the enormity of that sacred time in history. These five characterizations would be very useful if you dressed up or allowed someone else to dress up and have the moment narrated before your audience, letting them sense the emotions of the moment firsthand.

Character 2 ''Mary''

I remember when I was thirteen and mom and dad were crossing the Sea of Galilee, they were going to visit some family friends, leaving us girls behind. It was only supposed to be a two day excursion and they would return before the Sabbath, then it happened. A strong wind swept down upon the sea and before the people could do anything, the boat capsized killing everyone on board, twelve people in all.

We were in disbelief, they were gone so suddenly, thankfully my sister was able to keep me and care for me, and she was older and all ready married. I felt safe and secure with her and her family. It seems that they were very overly protective of me, especially if I walked into town.

I remember seeing Joseph as I passed his carpenter shop; there was something about him that made my heart race. Due to my parents being gone, I did not know what would happen about my future husband. Joseph begin to talk to me and then one day he came over to talk to my sister. She was very leery of any man that wanted to talk to me, but she allowed Joseph to come over.

It was agreed upon that Joseph and I would become espoused, which is like a modern day engagement, but with much more meaning, we were literally married, but would not become a true husband and wife until one year later. We would not live together or ha ...
