The Blessing of Respecting God
Dr. Darrow Perkins
Proverbs 14:26-27
Respect is something many people hear about but is getting to a point in our society that it's just a word. As the days go by, we're finding out that respect is almost ''a thing of the past'' as it's something that's not practiced on a regular basis. For example, how often to you hear the phrase, ''yes sir, or yes ma'am'' when younger people are speaking to ''seasoned citizens'' or for that matter, a simple ''Thank You'' when someone has received something. Or what about ''Excuse Me'' when they're trying to get around or pass by you, or even if they bump into you? A little respect will go a long way and a lot of respect will go even further
Respect by definition is ''a feeling of appreciative, often deferential regard; esteem; the state of being regarded with honor or esteem; Willingness to show consideration or appreciation. ''
When we think about God and all that He's done for us, it reminds us that He truly is to be respected because of His mighty acts. I've also found out that respect is a two way street! When you show respect, you can except to be on the receiving end of respect. The principle here is, ''For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.'' (Galatians 6:7) Knowing that respect is a two way street, we can reap ''The Blessings of Respecting God.''

Matthew Henry writes, ''In these two verses we are invited and encouraged to live in the fear of God by the advantages which attend a religious life. The fear of the Lord is here put for all gracious principles, producing gracious practices.'' When we talk about ''the fear of the Lord,'' we're not talking about being afraid of God, although we should all have a m ...
