Something Happens When Jesus Passes By

John 9:1-7
Most people don't like to be passed by someone or something. A prime example of this can be found on Interstate Highways here in San Diego. As you drive along the road, if you have a need to get over into a different lane, you will find that the person who is already in that lane, will in most cases, speed up so you can't get in front of them. I've not been able to figure it out, but that's what they do!! It's like they're afraid you will get to your destination before them and they're not even going where you're going! This also applies to the athlete. When he or she is running in the race, they don't want anybody to pass by them because they're trying to win that race. Maybe, just maybe, the mindset is that if someone passes you by, then that would mean you have lost or have been defeated. That, however, is not the case as it pertains to Jesus, especially in this instance. His passing by shows us that something positive can come out of His presence, that He has the power to keep His promises, or the people He sends our way are equipped to handle our situations.
The songwriter said, ''Pass me not O gentle savior; hear my humble cry. While on others thou art calling; do not pass me by.'' His words carry the idea that the Lord will pass by and not do anything, but to know the Lord, you would know that when He passes by, He's got just what you need and the power to make it happen in your life. We want to talk about, ''When Jesus Passes By.''
Our text is found in the 9th chapter of the Gospel of John. The first word ''and'' tells us that it's a continuation of the previous chapter and that there is a continuous flow in the actions of the Lord. To know the Lord is to know that He never stops doing what needs to be done in our lives and the lives of others. Up to this point, He had already told them that He was the Messiah (John 6:20); the Bread of Life (John 6:35); and the Light of the Wo ...
