Luke 2:8-16
It's something to me how this time of year has turned around our attention or focus away from what it was originally all about. It has become a time of profit; it has become a time of stress; it has become a time of feeling overwhelmed by the activities and festivities of the season. The world has tried on numerous occasions to remove Christ from the meaning of the season and some companies and corporations have even insisted that their employees say ''Happy Holidays'' instead of ''Merry Christmas!'' Some have even gone as far as to re-write Christmas by using an ''X'' in the place of Christ!
They can try to stop or hinder what the true meaning is, but they will never succeed.
It will always be about the birth of Christ;
It will always be about the greatest gift ever given;
It will always be about the gift that keeps on giving;
It will always be about the miraculous arrival of the savior of the world!
And we will find in our selected text that His birth was Signed, Sealed, and Delivered!!
Luke continues to give us a factual account of the birth of Jesus Christ. In verses 1-7 of Chapter 2, he informs us of how the divine will of God worked to ensure that Jesus would be born in the place which God's prophets said He would be born. I'm a firm believer that God can and will use the things and people of this world to get His work and purpose accomplished. He used Caesar Augustus to send out a decree to tax everybody and do so in their place of origin, thus causing Joseph to go back home to accomplish this. Mary, whom he was engaged to, was with child and close to giving birth also traveled with him. In today's society, doctors would have forbidden her to travel any real distance because she was so close to delivering, but God made sure she made the journey because Jesus was making a journey also!
