Don't Doubt the Lord!
Dr. Darrow Perkins
John 20:24-29
All of us, at some point in time experience doubt. Because we are not sure sometimes, we tend to not believe or have much confidence in something or someone until we have seen or witnessed it for ourselves. This doubt or uncertainty does not allow us to stretch out beyond what's in front of us to see all that God is doing for us. Just because we can't see something does not mean it doesn't exist. For example, we can't see the wind, but we know it's there! We feel the effects of the wind and it removes all doubt of its existence. Pharaoh didn't believe in God, but was subject to His effects! Whatever you do, Don't Doubt The Lord!
Our text is written by the hand of John, the beloved disciple. John's gospel shows the deity of Christ by showing Him to be God. John 1 tells us He is God and became flesh and dwelt among us. He left His heavenly residence to dwell with men and experience all that man goes through and endure. In the beginning of Chapter 20, Jesus has been crucified and Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb and sees that the stone has been moved away. She goes and tells the disciples about this and some make their way to the tomb to see for themselves. Upon arriving there, John looks and believes, but Peter goes in...he needed to see for himself and remove all doubt and uncertainty! Then Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene and she doesn't know it's Him. Later that day, Jesus appears to the disciples but Thomas was not with them, which brings us to our text today.
Don't Be Out of Place (verse 24). When Jesus appeared to the disciples, everybody was there, except Thomas. Because of his absence, he did not have a chance to experience the power of the Lord's presence and missed out on witnessing a miracle! This applies to us today as we need to be exactly where God wants us to be.
The Bible teaches us in John 5 about an impotent man who had this infirmity for 38 years. We're told that once a year, an ...
