Do You Know Him?
Dr. Darrow Perkins
John 7:40-53
When you want to succeed in life, it's important to know the right people. I heard someone once say, ''Show me a man's friends, and I'll predict his future.'' This tells us that as time goes one, we can become the people we associate with. For example, if you're hanging around a bunch of people who have no drive or desire in life, you can quickly become like those people and have no drive in life. If you hang around people who only want to do the wrong things, you can easily fall into that trap. If you hang around people who feel like education is not necessary, you may want to follow in their footsteps. The problem is, they're headed nowhere and want to take you with them. How about people on the job who are content with their current position and will tell you that a promotion is not necessary for you? Their intent is for you to remain right where they are and not achieve or receive all that you can possibly have.
In the day and times we live in, it's important for us to know the right people, but more importantly, the right person, and I'm referring to Jesus the Christ. He's the One that enables us to achieve all things in life; He's the One that gives us the strength necessary to make it on a daily basis; He's the one that blesses us with all that we need. For us to be successful in life, and know where we're going to spend eternity, it's important for us to know Jesus for ourselves. So the question today is, ''Do You Know Him?''
Here in John Chapter 7, Jesus has met with opposition and obstacles concerning His statements and the truth He's been sharing with the people. He's told them that if they would just believe on Him as the Messiah, that out of their belly shall flow rivers of living waters. He wasn't referring to natural water, but the Holy Spirit that would flow as a result of accepting Jesus Christ as savior. This caused a lot of division and dissention among the people and many didn't know ...
