In the days and times we live in, it's not hard for many to believe whatever they want to believe. There are so many lies and distractions nowadays that people will look in any and every direction but the cross to find something to believe it. They find it easy to put their focus on things that don't really matter in an effort to have something to hold on to. For example, I recall working in an office while in the Marine Corps that dealt with people who had alcohol and drug addictions. These people were required to go through a twelve-step program that made them acknowledge a higher power. This higher power could be anything they wanted it to be; so some would pick something that wouldn't require them to make any long-term commitment, and not have to alter their lifestyle or addiction. I've been told that some confessed doorknobs as their higher power, thus putting their faith, trust, and belief in something that could do nothing for them.

The word believe means ''to accept as true or real.'' To believe in something means to be convinced of the truth, existence, or worth of something; to have confidence or faith in. As it pertains to where we are today, we've got to know what to believe and who it is we believe in. Here's an example: there was a man in South Florida some time ago who claimed to be the ''second coming of Christ.'' He was a 60-year-old former heroin addict, with four kids and is on his second marriage. He preached that the devil is destroyed, hell does not exist, and that there is no condemnation for the chosen ones. He's got people believing his words to the point that they feel all other faiths must be destroyed. Jesus Himself warned us about such events in Matthew 24:24 whereby He states, ''For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive, the very elect.''
