How many of you know what it's like to have your back up against the wall? How many of us know what it's like to feel like there's no way out? How many of us know what it's like to experience such a feeling of desperation and uncertainty that you really don't know which way to turn or which direction to go in. Sometimes when the feelings come upon us, we can make it up in our minds to go to a place where nobody will bother us because we feel like they can't help us anyway. The mindset for some is that if I can't get it work out for me, I might as well just run away or go to a place to hide from it all. Running away never solves anything and hiding is only going to last for a little while. I submit to you that sometimes the pains, hurts, and situations of life make us feel like we're residing inside of a cave - a place that's dark, destitute, and disturbing. But there's hope and that hope is that we don't have to say in the cave. Today, we want to talk about ''Come Out Of The Cave.''

Our text is found in the Book of 1 Samuel. This book, according to Dr. Finis Dake, ''presents the life history of Samuel, the last of the days of the judges, the moral failure of the priesthood under Eli, the moral failure under Samuel, the beginnings of the failure of the monarchy under Saul, the anointing and trying experiences of David, and the end of Saul.'' It begins with the life of a barren woman who so desperately wanted a child that she began to pray to God that he would open up her womb. Her vow to the Lord was that if He would bless her with a child, she would in turn give the child back to God for His service. God answered her prayer and he grew to be a mighty man of God. This man became the leader of God's people until they looked around and saw that the other kingdoms had Kings as their leaders. They went to Samuel and told him that they wanted a king too, just like everybody else, which disturbed Samuel. H ...
