Choose to Do the Right Thing

1 Kings 15:9-14
Everyday presents us with many opportunities to make choices concerning our current situations. We can choose to stay, choose to go, choose to respond, choose not to respond; choose to say yes, choose to say no. With all of these choices, there is some kind of consequence as a result of our choice. Concerning our relationship with God, a statement has been made that goes, ''if you feel far from God, who moved?'' Knowing that God is Omnipresent (present everywhere), if we feel some kind of disconnect from Him, it's because we've done something to effect that relationship. We've made a choice concerning that relationship. For us to develop our relationship with God, it will require us to do some work. That means, I can't expect my relationship to grow and flourish by only spending a few hours with God on Sunday mornings, but rather, spending time with God throughout the week as well. He's an everyday God and not just a Sunday God. We've got to ''Choose to do the right thing.''
Our text is found in the Book of 1st Kings. This book is also known as the third book of the Kings as 1 and 2 Samuel and 1 and 2 Kings were thought to be one collection of books and name sequentially. The author is unknown as there is no direct claim to authorship. From a historical standpoint, the purpose is three-fold:
''To record a permanent history of Israel's monarchy or kings from a moral, spiritual perspective.
To explain the decline and utter destruction of Israel as a nation, pointing out why the people lost the promised land and were exiled, suffering a terrible plight.
To turn the Israelites back to the Lord, teaching both leaders and people the importance of building their lives and society upon the Lord. To be successful, they must...
Obey God's law, His commandments
Reject all false worship, worshipping the Lord and Him alone.''
