Breaking Loose by the Power of Praise
Dr. Darrow Perkins
Acts 16:23-26
Have you ever been in a situation where somebody had grabbed a hold of you and didn't want to let you go? Do you know what it's like to have something hold you down and you can't seem to get away? It's a feeling of helplessness and if it remains too long, it feels like hopelessness. Everything you seem to do to get away seems like it's just not working. You move one way and there's no way out; you move in another direction and there's still no way out. After a while you stop and try to re-assess the situation, only to find that you're still in the same situation.
In the world in which we live, there are things that have us or can get a hold of us and we begin to feel that way. For example, if you have a credit card (and in most cases, it's more than one credit card), run up the balance on it and are making minimum payments each month, it seems like the more you make payments, the further away you're getting from paying it off! If we're not careful, this can grab us and keep us down. If you smoke, abuse alcohol, drugs, other things that are not healthy for your body, been doing so for a long time, and you feel like you just can't quit, it's got you bound up and you need to be loosed. What we can't do is give up! We've got to go the source of our strength and pray to be set free. We've got to call on the name that is above every name and ask (1) for forgiveness; and (2) ask to be loosed from the strongholds of life. When we have a little talk with Jesus, He's got the awesome ability to get us where we need to be and Break Us Loose by the Power of Praise.
We find ourselves in the Book of Acts. Some have called this book the Acts of the Apostles as it shares the works of the Apostles and the things they did for the Kingdom. I've found that more appropriately, it should be referred to as the Acts of the Holy Spirit. Here's why...
