Are You Ready for the Battle?
Dr. Darrow Perkins
Ephesians 6:10-17
Believe it or not, every day we're alive affords us the opportunity to deal with the battles of this world. We may not completely realize it, but we're soldiers in the army of the Lord because what we deal with on a day-to-day basis is not physical, but rather spiritual. In Genesis 1:26 when God said, ''Let us make man in our image, after our likeness'' the inference here is not that we would physically look like God but be a reflective image of the nature of God. John 4:24 tell us, ''God is a Spirit...'' and this tells us that if we're made in the image of God, we're made in the spiritual image of God. What He has done is put a covering on this spiritual image and called it ''man.'' Now, understanding that we live in a physical world, it's easy for us to assume that everything we deal with has physical implications, but we must come to grips and understand that what we're dealing with are spiritual things under the cover of physical beings.
How many times have you dealt with somebody about something and you knew it was not because of who you are, but rather whose you are? That's not physical...that's spiritual!
How many times have you had to deal with people who did not like you because of your relationship with Christ? That's not physical...that's spiritual!
How many times have you dealt with people who treated you bad or unfairly because you have a desire to develop your relationship with Christ? That's not physical...that's spiritual!
As we aspire to grow in the Lord, the battle heats up and we've got to be ready for the battle. Here's an example:
You start reading your Bible and the telephone rings.
You start reading your Bible and somebody shows up at the door.
You start reading your Bible and somebody in the house, all of a sudden, needs your undivided attention.
When the enemy begins to send the attack our way, we've got to be ready to respond to his attacks, not ...
