Matthew 4:1-11
In October 2013 a Hawaii surfer and former boxer Jeff Horton was attacked by a shark. He spotted the shark approaching from his left and as he pulled his leg out of the water the shark bit his surfboard. The impact knocked him off his board. He rolled
onto the shark and grabbed a fin. On top of the shark, holding
on with one hand, he began punching as hard as he could with
his other fist. He believes he landed eight blows.
He said, ''I finally got one nice punch in the eye. I put some
really good hits on it for sure.'' When his knuckles jammed
into the shark's eye, the shark spit out the board and retreated.
He scrambled onto his board and paddled to the shore.
The shark briefly followed, but did not attack again.
Satan will certainly attack us with temptations
and unless we fight back, he will cause us to sin.
I Peter 5:8 Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him firm in your faith.
Adversary - Gk. someone who opposes you in lawsuit.
Satan stands against you to accuse you of doing wrong.
M. Henry - ''The purpose of Satan is to devour and destroy souls.''
Believers are to resist Satan in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Satan tempted Jesus in three ways to question his relationship with God. He wants to tempt you so that you question your relationship with God as well. Does God really meet all of my needs?
