Critical Moment (3 of 6)
Series: Spiritual Battle
Stephen Whitney
Genesis 3:1-7
Playing for the Seattle Mariners in 1996, left-hander Terry Mulholland had one of the best pickoff moves in baseball.
Over a period of five years, from 1992 to 1997 only six
runners were successful of stealing a base when he pitched.
His pitching motion was so deceptive that a runner on first
would think the pitch was going home and he would start to
lean toward second. At that instant, he would turn and throw
to first, often catching the runner off base for an out.
One runner said, ''Sometimes, it seems as if he gives up a hit
just so he can pick you off.'' That statement describes Satan.
Sometimes people have the mistaken idea that Satan wants to
give them pleasure. He no more wants to give you pleasure
than a baseball pitcher wants to give up hits. Satan wants to
inflict as much suffering into our lives as he possibly can.
Satan offers the pleasure of sin only to inflict suffering later.
DOUBT GOD'S WORD :1
Crafty (KJB subtile) - Heb. shrewd meaning deceptive.
It is the ability to get someone to believe a lie.
Job 15:5 You choose the tongue of the crafty.
Actually said - he challenged what God had said.
Satan implies that God's word is subject to our will.
Not eat of any tree - God said they would eat of all the trees
Except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (2:16-17).
Satan deliberately misrepresents what God has said.
Temptation
Charles Stanley - ''A temptation is an enticement by the devil that always includes sin and is always aimed at destroying us in some way. A temptation can occur through the devil speaking directly
to our minds and hearts, or by the devil speaking through a human
being who is functioning under the devil's influence.''
Temptation is aimed at getting us to:
Break any one of God's commands.
Do the right thing at the wrong time.
Do the right thing in the wrong way.
