Welcome to Mission Hills. We're in the midst of a series called Live Free we're exploring the book of Galatians for wisdom on how to narrow the gap between our expectation and experience of freedom as followers of Jesus.
Over the last few weeks, we've looked at several things that can widen the gap for us personally, but today we're going to talk about a way that we can widen the gap for other people. Actually, what we're going to talk about today is one of the top reasons that people give for not becoming Christians or, if they grew up in the church, this is one of the main reasons people give for leaving the church. what the heck is happening here
The issue I'm talking about is hypocrisy.
Can we be honest with each other? How many of us have ever known a Christian that we thought was a hypocrite? How many of us have ever been accused of hypocrisy? How many of us have accused ourselves of being hypocrites?
Hypocrisy is a very common problem in the Christian faith. And while our hypocrisy can cause problems in our relationship with God, it can also cause problems in other people's relationship with God. Let me show you what I mean: why don't you grab a Bible and start making your way to Galatians chapter two will be starting in verse 11 today.
Last week, we saw Paul describe the time that he went to Jerusalem to consult with the Christian leaders there and get some clarity on the gospel that he had been preaching. The gospel that said Belonging to God and His people depends on believing in the resurrection of Jesus. He had to get clarity on that issue because there were some Jewish Christians that we're turning social differences into spiritual divisions. They were telling the gentile Christians: if you don't behave like Jews - including being circumcised eating kosher and following other Jewish social regulations - then you don't really belong to God or his ...
