With our Bibles opened to Exodus 28, can you tell me what The Exodus, The Ark, The Tabernacle and The Garments of the High Priest have in common?
1. They are all described in the Bible.
2. They are all initiated by God.
3. They are all the product of God's grace.
4. They all fulfilled God's plan.
5. They are all pictures of Jesus.
Now I can hear someone thinking, ''Ernest, I was all good with your list until that last one. You're telling me that The Exodus, The Ark, The Tabernacle and the Garments worn by the High Priest are all pictures of Jesus?''
That's exactly what I'm telling you! You say, ''How do you know that?'' Because Jesus said they were. Do you remember after his resurrection when he walked up on those two dejected and discouraged men on their way to Emmaus? In speaking of Jesus, they said Luke 24.21, ''But we were hoping that he was the one who was about to redeem Israel. Besides all this, it's the third day since these things happened.'' They said that to Jesus! The resurrected Jesus who was standing right next to them.
Listen to what Jesus said to them beginning in verse 25, ''He said to them, 'How foolish you are and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Wasn't it necessary for the Messiah to suffer these things and enter into his glory?' Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures.''
Don't simply skim over those last four words like they don't matter. Every word in God's word matters! Look at those words again, ''...beginning with Moses and all the Prophets ... concerning himself ... in ALL of the Scriptures.'' What scriptures? The Old Testament scriptures!
Do you know what that tells me? That tells me that we need to be looking for Jesus when reading the Old Testament, because he's the ...
