JOKE: Two brooms were in a broom closest. One said to the other, ''How about I be the groom broom and you be the bride broom''? She agreed. Days passed, weeks passed, then months passed... Then the bride broom said, ''I have good news we are having a little swiffer''. The groom broom said in disbelief, ''How is that possible, we haven't even swept together''???
Well we are talking today about the 7th Commandment, Thou shall not commit adultery.
INTRODUCTION: We return this morning to our study of the Law of God, the 10 Commandments.
Remember the story as it was told in the book of Genesis: God made a covenant with Abraham, a binding promise to make him the father of a great nation, and ultimately through his offspring the entire world would be blessed. Abraham had a son, Isaac, Isaac had a son, Jacob called Israel. To Israel 12 sons were born who would become the 12 tribes of Israel. The book of Genesis closes as one of the sons, Joseph is sold into Egyptian slavery by his brother. But what they meant for evil, God meant for good.
Joseph grows in wisdom and stature, in favor with God and man till he is promoted to become Prime Minister over Egypt. From that station he is able to rescue his brothers from certain death in the midst of a great famine.
Then the book of Exodus begins many generations later. The 12 tribes have multiplied in the land of Goshen. Then a Kings arises who knew not Joseph. The Hebrews are enslaved and hatefully treated. God raises up a deliverer in Moses and performs great signs through Moses. The people are set free from their bondage and brought to the foot of Mt. Sinai.
Now keep in mind - they were in one sense a VERY large family that was about to become a significant Nation on the Earth. They would have land, industry, rulers, just like any other nation. But in order to ensure the progress of the Nation - the first needed a LAW. God's LAW. ...
