Exodus 20:15, Eph. 4:28
INTRODUCTION: On Friday, Oct. 1st my phone rang at 4:29PM. It was my mom. Now, we were getting ready to go on date night, so I figured I'd let it go to voice mail then call her back later. Then a text popped up also from my mom saying, ''call me as soon as you can''. I picked up the phone, called mom and I could tell when she answered the phone something was terribly wrong. Her voice was quivering. In that moments she sounded as frightened as I had ever heard her. My heart started racing, and I said, ''Mom what's wrong''. She said, ''Someone just robbed me''.
I said, ''ok, calm down, take a deep breath, and tell me exactly what happened''. She had placed an order on Amazon, came home to find the package had been opened and a $100 watch had been stolen. So she got on her phone and googled ''amazon prime'' a number popped up, she called it and a man with a forgeign accent answered. She explained what had happened and he said, ''Mam we can fix this, just need to know the full card number you used to order the product''. By the time the man had scammed her out of more and more info - she called her bank to discover he had removed $4500 from her account.
Now, mom has done well financially so $4500 is not the end of the world for her. AND her bank has insurance - her money was back in her account the next day. But for some reason it shook my mom to the core. If you have ever had something stolen, you understand that feeling.
Every time, you feel absolutely violated, somehow de-humanized.
There's a reason for that. And that reason is why God included the 8th Commandment.
TEXT: Exodus 20:15 ESV ''You shall not steal.''
The first sin ever committed was in a sense stealing. God had given mankind dominion, or stewardship over the entire planet, except for one tree. As a matter of fact God said, ''You may eat freely of ALL THE TREES, except for this one and the day ...
