WHEN YOU CAN'T SLAY THE GIANTS ANYMORE ~
II SAMUEL 21: 15-22
IT COULD BE THAT THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE IS THE DAY
YOU LEARN YOU CANIT SLAY ALL THE GIANTS. YOU REMEMBER HOW
THE WORD OF GOD HAD TOLD OF DAVID SLAYING THE GIANT GOLIATH
WHEN DAVID WAS VERY YOUNG AND HAD GREAT FAITH IN GOD. WELL,
ON THIS DAY HE CONFIDENTLY WENT FORTH TO DO BATTLE WITH
ANOTHER GIANT. ALL OF US FACE GIANTS IN OUR DAILY LIVING.
A LONG LIST COULD BE MADE. THERE IS A HABIT YOU STARTED IN
YOUR YOUNGER, GREENER DAYS. YOU KNEW THE GIANT HAD FELLED
MANY ANOTHER, BUT YOU WERE SURE YOU COULD TAKE HIM. AND NOW
YOU HAVE BECOME PAINFULLY AWARE THAT YOU CAN'T SLAY THE
GIANT ANYMORE.
PERHAPS SOME GOAL, SOME SUCCESS, A NOBLE ACHIEVEMENT
FOR WHICH YOU ASPIRED SOMETHING THAT YOU KNEW WOULD BE HARD,
BUT YOU SET OUT CONFIDENTLY TO OVERCOME, AND NOW IT IS
APPARENT THAT THE CHALLENGE WAS MORE THAN YOU THOUGHT. IT'S
A HARD THING TO FACE UP TO THE FACT THAT YOU ARE NOT A GIANT
KILLER, AFTER ALL. AND YET AT A TIME WHEN ALL LOOKS LOST,
WHEN THE GIANT YOU SET OUT TO CONQUER STANDS POISED POWER-
FULLY OVER YOU ABOUT TO STRIKE THE DEATH BLOW, IT JUST
MIGHT BE YOUR BEST HOUR.
THE DAY YOU LEARN YOU CAN'T SLAY ALL THE GIANTS IS THE
2
DAY YOU LEARN TO IDENTIFY YOUR REAL ENEMY. DAVID WAS
JEOPARDIZING HIS FUTURE AND. THE FUTURE OF ALL WHO DEPENDED
ON HIM BY PROUDLY ASSUMING A STRENGTH AND ABILITY HE DIDN T
POSSESS. HE HAD GONE AGAINST GOLIATH WITH CONFIDENCE IN
GOD, BUT HE HAD FACED GOLIATH' S BROTHER WITH CONFIDENCE IN
DAVID.
THE BIBLE WARNS US AGAINST TRUSTING OURSELVES AND
LEANING TO OUR OWN UNDERSTANDING." WE HAVE AN ENEMY WHOSE
AVOWED PURPOSE IS TO CON US INTO PERSONAL AND ETERNAL
DESTRUCTION. ONE DAY GOD SAID TO SATAN, "YOU'VE BEEN
CONSIDERING MY SERVANT JOB, HAVEN'T YOU?" MY, WHAT AN
INTERESTING WORD "CONSIDERING" IS. IT'S LIKE AN ENEMY
PATIENTLY WATCHING; LOOKING FOR YOUR WEAKEST LINK.
YOU REMEMBER POGO? HE'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE
PHILOSOPHERS. ...
