Matthew 6:19-21
In many parts of the world, the pandemic has made it mandatory that gyms and workout facilities temporarily close down. Now, of course, this law has impacted many small businesses and a good portion of them may be shut down forever. However, some businesses have found creative ways to stay open, even at the height of the pandemic.
For example, I heard about one Polish gym (originally called Atlantic Sports Fitness) that actually posed as a church so that it could stay open. In fact, they put out a statement that said:
''Because fitness classes cannot function, from this point on, religious gatherings will take place in our club for members of the association called the Church of the Healthy Body.''
That's real. And believe it or not... members of this new ''church'' were called ''congregants'' and the gym trainers were called ''the elder council.'' As you can imagine, people criticized them in major ways. But in response to those questioning this decision, the club manager said, ''I don't like legal loopholes, but we have no choice and are now fighting for survival.''
In a similar way... When it comes to MONEY, many Christians are merely trying to survive. We know that the Bible talks about money... We know what Jesus says about stewardship... and yet still... because of our worries and because of our sin nature, we look for ''loopholes'' around what God has to say about this topic.
But the truth is... Jesus didn't leave any room for us to ignore or disobey what He has to say about money. Now, when you read the Bible, you see... he addressed a lot of topics and taught on a lot of different themes... but there are very FEW themes that he addressed more than money, stewardship and giving.
In fact, one count lists more than 800 times that Jesus talked about these topics. 800 times! If you want me to put that into perspective for you... The Bib ...
