2 Corinthians 5
It was 12 months ago, today, that I stood here on my first Sunday as your Pastor. This meant my wife and I had to change a few things, learn names and faces, and live in a different environment. Today, we are still learning names. One reason we are still learning is because in our early days here, most were wearing masks (COVID). While we understood the need for those masks, it hampered and still hampers us from recognizing you, the person you are and the name you have. Back in the day, my generation spoke of the 'masks' as keeping you from knowing the REAL THEM.
Today, we complete our series entitled ''Authentic''. I got to thinking about the title because today, titles either attract or distract interest. Perhaps I should have entitled this ''Keeping it real'' because that may have communicated better. Keeping it real is a phrase used a lot by younger people to mean things like ''stay cool,'' ''chill,'' or perhaps it's a call to act in an honest way, not pretending, not put on, and not acting different than you really are.' Some might ask, ''Why have you spent so much time on this topic?'' Outside of the fact that I sensed God's leadership to each and every message, it is because, in the world today, there is so much counterfeit spirituality. This means we, as God's people, need to recognize the authentic and keep it real for a lost world that so desperately needs a savior.
