William Bill Cosby told the story of when he had negotiated a performance venue that included Ray Charles as a part of a show. He said, Ray Charles was an absolute genius, and he was an admirer of him as a performer. So, in Reno, Nevada, Ray Charles and Bill Cosby were staged at one of the premier hotels in Reno. Cosby had ultimately brokered the deal, and he ensured that Ray Charles received exactly what he contracted. As a matter of fact, Cosby had Ray's compensation to come to him. So, when they were paid, Cosby called Ray's room to convey that he had the check and asked did he want him to give it to his manager? Ray's response was, ''My manager was not on stage. Bring me my money!'' Ray said, ''Come on over to my room; the door will be open.'' Bill Cosby said that he went to Ray's suite, and the door was ajar. Even though Ray was expecting him, he knocked anyway. He heard Ray say come in, and so he did. Cosby said when he walked into the suite, every light was off. The suite was completely black. Cosby blurted out, ''Ray, where are you?'' Ray said, ''In the bathroom, Bill, shaving.'' Bill Cosby said, he then said one of the most stupidest things! And he knew it thirty seconds after he said it. He said, ''What are you doing shaving in the dark?'' Ray's response was, ''Bill, I do everything in the dark; I live in darkness.''
There are people who live in the darkness because they are blind to the light. There are people who live in blindness of mind, heart, and blindness of truth. They just live in the bondage of blindness. Ray Charles lived in darkness because there was something wrong with his eyes. But there are those who are blind with eyes open and vision impaired by tradition. There are those who cannot see the truth because they have lived in untruth for so long.
