Millions of people came to know Eric Liddell through the movie,
Chariots of Fire. It depicted the Scottish athlete's devotion to Jesus Christ and his refusal under severe pressure to violate his spiritual convictions not to run on Sunday - even at the expense
of winning an Olympic gold medal in in the 100-yard dash the 1924 Olympics. But he did win a gold medal in the 400-yard dash.
Ian Charleston, who played the role of Eric in the film, had to
learn to run with his head tilted back which was Eric's style.
On the sixth day of filming, he concluded Eric's unconventional running style was inspired by simple trust. He said, ''Eric trusted to get there. He ran with faith. He didn't even look where he was going.''
That trust carried over into Eric's spiritual life. It was that trust that took him to China as a missionary. Head up, trusting his Savior, he died at the young age of 43 in a Japanese concentration camp of a brain tumor, still faithfully serving his Savior.
God calls us to run the race he has set before us - trusting Christ.
Matthew 28:20 Just before Jesus went back to heaven he told his disciples, ''I am with you always, even to the end of the age.''

he is helping us in the present and we believe that he will
help us all the way through.''

Those people walked with God throughout the trials in their lives.
These saints are now watching us from heaven, but their lives stand as examples to us demonstrating that if we persevere like they persevered we will be rewarded like they were rewarded
with eternal life with God.
