THE IDENTITY OF THE BELIEVER II: SONS OF GOD
1 JOHN 3:1-2 (1) How great is the love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The
reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. (2) Dear
friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been
made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for
we shall see him as he is.
1 JOHN 2:13 I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is
from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have
overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have
known the Father.
INTRO: THE MISSING FATHER : THE FORGOTTEN
RELATIONSHIP
A. LAST WEEK WE DISCOVERED THE IMPORTANCE OF
KNOWING OUR SPIRITUAL IDENTITY!
1. IT IS YOUR SPIRITUAL IDENTITY THAT TELLS YOU
WHO YOU ARE, WHAT YOU CAN BE AND HOW TO
LIVE.
2. IT IS YOUR SPIRITUAL IDENTITY THAT GIVES YOU
STABILITY, VICTORY AND CONFIDENCE IN A WORLD
THAT IS SO CONFUSED AND DISHEARTENED.
3. PERHAPS THE GREATEST NEED OF THE CHURCH
IS TO REDISCOVER THEIR TRUE IDENTITY! TO
KNOW GOD AND TO KNOW THEMSELVES!
ILL. THE FACT IS THAT WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW WILL
HURT YOU! ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO GOD AND TO
YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM!
1. YOU ARE WHO GOD SAYS YOU ARE AND YOU CAN
DO WHAT HE SAYS YOU CAN DO!
B. COROLLARY TRUTH; YOU BECOME WHAT YOU
WORSHIP!
ILL. MAN TEACHING ON WORSHIP; WHAT YOU EXALT OF
GOD LIFTS YOU AT THAT POINT.
1. WHAT YOU WORSHIP GOD FOR! BECOMES PART
OF YOU! LIFTS YOU THERE.
i.e. FOCUS ON THE LOVE OF GOD, FILLS YOU WITH LOVE..
HOLINESS. . . lifts you into His Holiness, part of you etc. PEACE.
“thank you JESUS PRINCE OF PEACE! I EXALT YOU PRINCE OF
PEACE; PEACE COMES.
C. QUESTION WHAT IS THE MOST NEGLECTED
REVELATION OF GOD, MOST MISSED WORD FOR GO ...
