Jonah 1:17-2:10
Have you ever been in a situation where your resources were not enough? - We work to avoid that right?
You go to school for education. You get training. You earn income. You develop skills.
All our kids have had swim lessons now. We want them to be able to survive and thrive in the water. We want them to be resourced for that.
Life tends to have moments... that are too daunting for your resources. - Moments where you have to decide where to look, who to trust.
The Christ follower, the believer knows we are to look to the Lord. - Our theology teaches us we are always to depend on His resources not our own. - Sometimes life
forces us to test our theology.
Here in Jonah 2... Jonah's resources will not be enough. - He's been tossed into the sea! Left for dead! He will soon be in the belly of a fish! - He can't swim his way out of this! He didn't need to learn to swim... but to PRAY.
Jonah records for us a psalm here ... it reveals somethings we need to KNOW. When your sin catches up to you. When you reap what you sow, or when you find yourself simply drowning in difficulty. When life feels like too much. There are things we need to KNOW.
Jonah 1:17, 2:1-10 - 17And the LORD appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
2 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish, 2 saying, ''I called out to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice. 3 For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me. 4 Then I said, 'I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple.' 5 The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head 6 at the roots of the mountains.
