If you have your Bible, please turn to 2nd Thessalonians, chapter 3. We're in a series on the Book of 2nd Thessalonians. We have entitled this series ''The Church in the Last Days,'' because First and Second Thessalonians deals so much with the second coming of Christ. But today, we want to talk about prayer.

I heard about a church in a small town in Texas. It was a very conservative town. It was a dry town. A man came to town, a businessman, and he got a permit to build a tavern in this town, a bar. Well, the church didn't like that. The pastor called the people together and they said, ''We can't have this in our town. This won't be good for our town.'' So, they said, ''We need to pray and ask God to intervene.'' They prayed that. Had an all-night prayer meeting about this issue, and they prayed. It was just a few days later, right before the business was supposed to open, that there was an electrical storm in their town, and a bolt of lightning hit the tavern and it started a fire, and it burned it to the ground. Well, the church people were excited until the tavern owner sued the church and said, ''You caused the fire.'' They said, ''We're not responsible for the fire.'' But it went to court. This case was there before the judge, and he looked at the case. He said, ''This is an interesting case. I'm not sure how this is going to turn out. But one thing is for certain: the tavern owner believes in the power of prayer and the church people don't.''

I want to ask you, do you believe in the power of prayer? We're in church so you know the right answer. The answer is yes. But for most of us, we struggle in this thing called prayer because we don't feel like we do it very well. You hear stories, and you sing songs, perhaps, ''Sweet Hour of Prayer,'' and you're like, man, praying for an hour - that would really be hard. I can't pray for an hour. I struggle to p ...
