Psalm 103:1-5
A college graduate, who was brand-new, fresh out of college with a mechanical engineering degree had his first interview after graduation. The interview was going pretty well. He was interviewing with the head of human resources for this particular company. The head of human resources asked this fresh college graduate, ''Now, what kind of salary are you expecting in this job?'' And he said, ''Well, I expect around $175,000 a year plus benefits, whatever the benefits package would be. You know, I'm going to look at several companies, and so it's going to be in that range, and then, I'm going to evaluate the benefits package.'' The interviewer looked at him and said, ''How much?'' He said, ''Around $175,000 a year, depending on the benefits package.'' He said, ''Well, what would you say to a benefits package that had five weeks of paid vacation, fourteen paid holidays, medical, dental, optometry all covered 100%. And a matching IRA up to 50% of your salary. And, hey, how about a new company car every two years. For you, we'll say a red Corvette.'' He goes, ''Wow! Are you kidding?'' He said, ''Yes, but you started it.''
We want to talk today about the Lord's benefits package. You know, companies have benefits package. Probably where you work, you work for a salary plus benefits and benefits can be very important. I remember when I was working way back when at Waste Management. Waste Management would say, ''You know, we don't pay much, but we have good benefits.'' One of the guys I worked with said, ''Yeah, but it's tough to eat benefits.'' I understood what he meant. But, you know, benefits really add up. Well, just as companies have a benefits package, the Lord, the giver of every good and perfect gift, has a benefits package for those who follow after Him.
