Warning signs are something all of us are familiar with. When you're driving a car, you see warning signs. When you walk into buildings, you often have warning signs up. Warning signs are there to help us. They're there to protect us from potential danger, from potential harm. I think everyone is very familiar with seeing this sign. You see it in grocery stores. You see it banks. You see it in all sorts of different areas, ''Caution: Wet Floor.'' If they've just mopped the floor, they want you to be careful. ''Hey, this is slippery. Be careful when you walk over this.'' And we're all familiar with that. But we're not as familiar with some other warning signs. How about this one? It says, ''Caution: This sign has sharp edges. Do not touch the edges of this sign.'' And then, in little print, ''And also, the bridge is out!'' That's something important to know. How about this one? ''Warning: To avoid injury, don't tell me how to do my job. You'll get a wrench in the head.'' Now, that's a good warning. How about this one: ''Beware of the dog, but beware of the cat, too. He's kind of weird.'' He's down there on the corner. ''Caution: This machine has no brain. Use your own. Be very careful.'' It reminds me of Michael Scott with the baler, if you're an Office fan. ''If our dog doesn't like you, we probably won't either.'' That's a good warning. And then, this last one, ''Is there life after death? Trespass here and find out.'' That's a good warning that, hey, you come here, you are liable to be dead.

Nobody gets upset at warning signs because we know they're not there to harm us; they're there to protect us from harm, from some kind of danger, maybe even from death.
