Making Ethical Decisions in the 21st. Century
Richard Bradley
1 Corinthians 8:1-13
There are all kinds of reasons either doing or not doing something. Often, the Bible clearly instructs us in these matters and this is nice. God's Word gives us something to stand on. There can be no better instruction for Christians than, ''because the Bible says so.'' However, occasionally the Bible is relatively silent on certain matters that are important to us. In these cases we must be careful to distinguish between how we feel and what we know for certain.
In Paul's day there was a problem with eating meat that had been offered to idols in pagan temples. This meat, which was often the best meat available, was first offered to idols in worship and then sold in the marketplace. The question of eating meat was one of the biggest ethical issues of Paul's day.
What do we do in cases like this? Paul's conclusion was that meat is just meat and it doesn't matter where it comes from but he was still not likely to eat it. Even when the Bible is silent we sometimes still need to say no.

5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords),
6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.
7 However, there is not in everyone that knowledge; for some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is def ...
