We come today to the final lesson in our lengthy study of John's gospel. We've been working our way through the gospel of John for what has been now 75 lessons. And it has been one of the most rewarding studies I have ever done.

We have seen water become wine, an adulterous woman become an evangelist, and it's all because the Word became flesh. We've watched as our Lord walked on water, gave sight to a blind man, and raised a corpse from the dead. We've heard Jesus preach about light coming into the world, bread coming down from God, and life coming into dead sinners like you and me.

And through it all, John's purpose has been for us to believe the right things about Jesus Christ that we could be born again.

John 20:31 - But these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and believing you may have life in His name.''

Before we dissect the words of Jesus to Simon Peter, I want us to just notice for a moment that Jesus is talking to Simon.

''These may all leave you but I never will'' Simon.
''Drew his sword and cut off a dude's ear'' Simon.
''Talked like a traitor and cussed like a sailor'' Simon.
''Ran like a sissy and cried like a baby'' Simon.

Now in the presence of all these disciples, Jesus chooses to restore Simon Peter. Since Simon's FAILURE had been public His REPENTANCE and RESTORATION needed to be public as well. Many people are set on the sideline of ministry and service after failure and it's not because God won't forgive but because they won't REPENT and come clean with what they did.
