John 20:24-31

Our 73rd lesson in our ''iBelieve'' series takes us to one of the most misunderstood scenes in this gospel. This story is, in fact, one of the few stories that even lost people seem to know. But the lost and the saved alike don't always seem to understand it.

This encounter is the Biblical context of our theme verse. John 20:31 - ''These have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and believing, you may have life in His name.''

Why did John say that here? Is there anything in this text that can help us, as the people of God, to live in belief and not doubt?

I think there is much here that can move God's people from FEAR and DOUBT to WORSHIP and BELIEF! So I ask, ''Which Thomas Are You?''

In 1985, Bill and Gloria Gaither wrote a simple little song for an Easter musical. The song was called, ''We All Are Thomas.'' The song was written to remind us that there is a little of this apostle in each of us. I think that's probably true.

At the conclusion of John 20, much focus is giving to one we call, ''Doubting Thomas.'' But that's actually not what this encounter between Thomas and Jesus is even about. What I want you to see is that the discouragement of verse 24 (he wasn't even there) and the doubt of verse 25 (I won't believe) must be set against the declaration of verse 28 (My Lord and my God) and the decree in verse 29 - Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe

Thomas had a couple of nicknames. One was ''doubter'' and the other was ''Didymus.'' ''Didymus,'' which means, ''twin'' (v. 24). I don't know if Thomas had a biological twin but I've discovered he has some spiritual twins. In fact, he has some spiritual TRIPLETS because I see 3 glimpses of Thomas in this text.

As we look at these three snapshots of Thomas I want to ask, ''WHICH THOMAS ARE YOU?''
