John 16:25-33
Turning Point Magazine records the fascinating story of a day in the life of Ruth Jones. The year was 1944 and Mrs. Jones, a pastor's wife in Pennsylvania was distressed by the headlines of her Pittsburgh newspaper. Every day she was greeted by the casualty list from WW2 and by stories of the slow painful progress of the Allied Forces in Europe. With war abroad and rationing at home, the mother of 5 was under an intense strain.
This particular morning her Bible opened to 2 Timothy 3 and Mrs. Jones read in verse 1 ''that in the last days perilous times will come.'' Lyrics almost began composing themselves on a pad.
A tune emerged in her mind, which she later realized was inspired by the arpeggiated chimes of the clock. The melody and lyric were soon wedded together in what would become one of the most popular hymns of the 1940s and 50s.
In times like these we need a Savior...you need an anchor.

It's doubtful anyone is worried about the encroaching army in a foreign war. But your marriage may be killing you.
You probably aren't facing a Nazi attack but you may be in hand-to-hand spiritual combat on the job.
You probably aren't worried about the casualty list in the morning paper. The doctor's report may be just as fearful to you.
In either case, these words of Jesus can help you face times like these. In the close of John 16 we are only about an hour or so from His arrest in Gethsemane. And yet the Lord Jesus closes this great ''Farewell Discourse'' with words of peace of comfort.
The Holy Spirit would later bring these words to their minds to help them navigate the challenges of First Century persecution. And by Divine inspiration, these apostles ultimately put these words in our h ...
