Life in the Vine (55 of 75)
Series: The Gospel of John

John 15:1-11
We are 2/3rd of the way through, as far as chapters, having completed 14 of 21 chapters. I will remind you that each chapter, each story, each miracle, is designed to convey one point: ''Jesus Christ is the Son of God and we should believe on Him.''
John 20:31 - ''But these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and believing, you may have life in His name.''
Throughout this 4th gospel Jesus has given a number of analogies to describe His ministry to His people.
We are His sheep and He is the Shepherd
We are in darkness and He is the Light
We have hungry souls and He is the Bread
We are spiritually dead and He is the Resurrection
And here in John 15, we are branches and He is the Vine
Today's text in John reminds us that the life that we receive at salvation is not a 1-time, back there, way-back-when kind of gift. The problem with a lot of salvation testimonies is that they're too old. By that I don't mean that the happened a long time ago. I mean there was an event a long time ago but there hasn't been much going on since the time of that supposed salvation.
Consider a couple that's been married 50 years. If I were ask, ''How is your marriage?'' and they said, ''April 10, 1966. 11am at the First Baptist Church of Podunk.'' We would think that to be strange. Yet many ''faith'' testimonies are just like that.
No growth...no service...no holiness...no maturity. By contrast we see here that God enables and expects us to live every day depending ON and devoted TO the Lord Jesus.
1. Life in the Vine is a life that points to Christ (1, 4-5)
25x in 11 verses, Jesus uses the words ''I, Me, and My.''
Christ is of the impression that the Christian life is about Himself!
The life we live for Jesus is only possible because of the life Jesus lived FOR us and is now living IN us and THROUGH us.
In at least one sense, Go ...
