John 14:12-15
This entire book is about Jesus. John declares in chapter 20 and verse 31 - ''But these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and believing, you may have life in His name.''
And as we apply the truths learned in today's short text we will see that Jesus is a God of Grace and a Master of Mercy. He's a Savior of Second Chances.
I heard about two hunters who had rented a plane to take them to a remote section of forest to do elk hunting. Both men were able to harvest a large elk. Six days later the airplane came back to pick them up. The pilot noticed their two trophy elk and told them only one could be transported on the plane due to weight restrictions
Remembering the last year when they took two elk on the plane, they protested and offered the pilot $500 extra dollars to try to carry both elk. After a 3 minute attempted flight, they were unable to reach the required altitude and they crashed. Asking about their location, the pilot said, ''I think we're about a half mile from where we crashed last year.''
Those men should have learned their lesson from the previous crash! But I'm glad God lets us have second chances, do overs, another opportunity to learn from yesterday's failures. On this New Year's weekend, I want us to see what God has in store for all those looking for a new beginning.
1. A greater productivity (12)
In Acts 1:8 Jesus promised power. Here is a little preview of the type of WORK we will be able to do when we have that kind of POWER.
As I've prayed about and considered the new year, it occurs to me: I don't know any reason at all that this new year cannot be my most productive and effective year of serving Jesus and my family. I don't want to live life with my eyes in the rear-view mirror.
