Christian Science (3 of 5)
Series: Belief Barriers
James Merritt
John 3:12; 8:32; 17:17

Introduction

1. If Christianity is so wonderful and those of us who are Christians believe it to be true and if it carries with it the greatest message the world has ever heard, why do so many people reject it, particularly here in America? There appears to be five major reasons why people do so. We are dealing with them in this series that we are calling ''belief barriers.'' One of the reasons that we are dealing with today is science and the bible.

2. In a way, that puzzles me because Christianity actually gave a worldview that gave rise to modern science three hundred and fifty years ago. Scripture tells us that this is a god-created, well-ordered universe that because of divine laws can be investigated. All of the founding fathers of science, men like Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Newton, Boyle, and Pascal were devout Christians. Today, while ninety-five percent of Americans believe in god and a higher power, only fifty-one percent of scientists do.

That sounds good in the theory, but it is completely wrong. I am going to share with you now two reasons why.

4. Jesus, himself made a statement to try and make a division between earthly truth and eternal truth which causes more problems than it solves.
''I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?''
(John 3:12, NIV)
Jesus was talking to Nicodemus about the physical process of birth, but he makes this incredible statement, ''if you won't believe what I say about earthly ...
