Series: How the Church ACTS

Acts 13:44-52
I want to begin this morning by asking one simple question: What does an attractive, successful ministry look like? Depending on who you ask-You'll get all kinds of answers to this question.
I was eating at a restaurant a few weeks back and I couldn't help but overhear the conversation that was taking place at the booth behind me.
There were two ladies having lunch and they were talking about church. One lady asked the other lady-''So why exactly did you change churches after all these years? And I'll never forget the lady's answer. She said-''You know... At my new church, the Sunday School teachers provide breakfast for the class. My old church didn't take care of me like that.''
I know that's funny... but believe it or not, there are 'church-growth experts' who believe-if you want your church to grow-you better provide donuts... you better keep people happy and entertained...
There are all kinds of man-made formulas for building an attractive ministry. Experts will tell you-You better have moving lights and a fog machine... Worship leader with tattoos and wears a lot of hair product... a preacher that is funny and entertaining...
They'll tell you to avoid messages that make people feel convicted of their sin... and to preach messages that are uplifting and motivational in nature.
For far too long, the church has missed it when it comes to what an attractive ministry is supposed to look like.
While God uses great music, preaching, family ministries, and events to 'attract' people to the church-we've got to understand that these things will NEVER replace the role of the Holy Spirit in the church.
As we open God's word to Acts 13 today, we're going to see just that.
Paul and Barnabas are going to show us a completely different formula for success when it comes to having an attractive ministry.
