Who is the greatest leader you've ever known?
Most likely, when I ask that question, someone's face pops into your mind... and you think, ''THEY are a great leader!''
But the great leader you're thinking about is probably different than leader the person next to you is thinking about. He/she is probably different than the great leader I'm thinking about. They most likely have different leadership qualities and leadership styles.
So, the question is: What makes someone a great leader? Is a great leader someone that is a...
- Strong, driven, type-A leader-nobody's going to stop me from moving forward.
- Visionary leader-always moving forward to the next thing
- Shepherd leader-someone who slowly and carefully progresses when the time is right
- Charismatic Leader-someone that provides a cheerleader-type leadership style; motivating and coaching along the way
- Strategic Leader-someone that has to have a plan before pulling the trigger and moving forward
Most of the time a great leader is either one or the other-not a combination of these things. Most of us would probably consider Paul a strong, driven, type-A leader.
Sure, Paul had a clear vision and mission from God and was committed to moving forward, no matter what, but as we open up to [Acts 20] today, we're going to see a different side of Paul's leadership. [Acts 20:13-38]
As you're turning there, let me back up a little bit so we can see where Paul is coming from: At this point, he had been traveling from town to town, performing miracles and preaching the gospel.
He's been in Philippi, Thessalonica, Berea, Athens, Corinth... and most recently Paul was ministering in Macedonia and Greece.
Now, this is his third missionary journey-and every time we've seen Paul persecuted along the way... every time we've seen Paul get knocked down, he pops back up and keeps moving forward... and God ble ...
