When God Opens Doors (12 of 26)
Series: How the Church ACTS
Jordan Easley
Acts 16:1-10
When you study God's word and you're trying to figure out WHERE you're supposed to go and WHAT you're supposed to do... oftentimes you'll see God use the imagery of a DOOR.
He talks about open doors and He talks about closed doors... and today, we're going to see how God uses both of these things (open doors and closed doors) to point us in the right direction.
As we began studying the book of Acts, we saw Jesus come back from the dead and then he commissioned the church to take the gospel to the ends of the earth... before he ascended into the clouds.
Then if you'll remember, He sent the Holy Spirit to the church, to be their helper and to give them God's power-and when that happened, God essentially opened a huge door-that the apostles walked through.
It was a door of opportunity... it was a door of obedience... and those early disciples did in fact obey Christ and fulfill what He asked them to do.
And over the past several months, we've seen the early church do just that. They've lived on mission. They've shared the gospel. They've performed miracles and preached a message that Jesus truly was the Messiah.
But walking through that door of obedience wasn't always easy or comfortable for the early church.
As a result of walking through that door... these Christ-followers were persecuted by the religious Jews. They were locked up in prison. They were beaten with weapons and stoned with rocks because of their faith and because of their bold message.
But despite all of that... they were faithful and God used them in incredible ways... Today, as we open up to Acts 16, we're going to see God continue to use these men.
If you'll remember, last week we talked about the big break-up that occurred between Paul and Barnabas. They had a big disagreement and it ended up causing these men to split up and go two separate ways.
