Acts 15:1-35
Throughout history, there have been several teams that were pursuing perfection... but ended up falling short, right at the end.
In 2007, the New England Patriots became the first NFL team to win all 16 of their regular season games and go on to additionally win the next three playoff games to advance to the Championship.
They were PERFECT, until they faced off against the Giants in the Super Bowl-where they lost 17-14... just falling short of perfection.
And how about the 2015-2016 Golden State Warriors? This was the team that set a brand new NBA record for the most wins in a season... ever. They won 73 games and only lost 9.
Many were calling this the greatest team in basketball history... and yet, although they were leading 3 games to 1 in the Finals, this ''nearly perfect'' team squandered that lead and ended up losing the final 3 games to Lebron James and the Cavs.
They didn't end their season as Champion... Everything they had worked for all season long... Every preceding victory leading up to that point... went up in smoke, because in the end... they fell short.
In a comparable way, every single one of us can find ourselves in a similar situation.
No matter how well we 'PLAY' or how 'GOOD' we are in this life (the regular season)... the truth is, if we don't place our faith in Jesus Christ, we too will fall short. LISTEN... We cannot obtain a righteousness of our own!
[Rom. 3:22-24] 22 The righteousness of God is through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe, since there is no distinction.23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; 24 they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
The Scriptures are very clear about this. We are not saved by our works or our accomplishments. We cannot obtain a righteousness of our own! We are saved by the grace of God through Jesus Christ.
