SERMON SUMMARY: This sermon addresses Jesus' command to remember him through the Lord's Supper by 1) Looking BACK, 2) Looking AROUND 3) Looking INSIDE and, 4) Looking A CROSS.

We've been in a sermon series entitled ''Obey Everything'' taken from Jesus ''Great Commission.'' Today we're going to study Jesus' command to remember him through what we call the ''Lord's Supper'' or the ''communion.'' How do we obey this command to REMEMBER Jesus?


I. BY LOOKING BACK

Mt.26:14-19 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ''Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?'' He replied, ''Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, 'The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.''' So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.''

Jesus instituted the ''Lord's Supper'' during the Passover observance. At the annual Passover feast, all of the Jews would ''look back'' and remember how God had delivered them, as a people, from Egyptian slavery, some 1500 years in the past. How HAD God delivered them from Egyptian slavery? Through the ten plagues he brought against Egypt by the hand of Moses. The tenth, and final, plague was God sending a death angel to take the life of the first-born son of every Egyptian household. In order for the Israelites living in Egypt to be spared this plague, they were to slaughter a WHAT? They were to slaughter a lamb and smear the blood upon the doorposts of their homes. When the angel of death saw the blood on the house, he PASSED OVER that house and spared the first-born son. The death of that lamb was a SUBSTITUTE for the death of that son. This judgement finally broke Pharoah's will, and he let the Israelites go. The next day, the Israelites left Egypt in great haste. They didn't ...
